Street Certified
Led by justice-impacted individuals, VOICE Buffalo's Street Certified fights to address root causes of mass incarceration through strategic campaigns. Along with community partners, Street Certified works on campaigns with the objective of dismantling barriers that disenfranchise and marginalize individuals affected by mass incarceration, disproportionately impacting Black, Latinx, and low-income communities.
Launched in late 2021, Street Certified also seeks to address the long term impacts on formerly incarcerated individuals and their loved ones by providing a restorative space to heal, grow, and empower themselves. This space, facilitated by justice-impacted individuals, connects participants with tools and resources for re-entry, provides leadership development, civic education, and supports personal growth, and accountability.

Campaign Win
Clean Slate Act Signed into Law!
After years of organizing by directly-impacted leaders, the Clean Slate Act(S7551A /A1029C) was signed by Governor Kathy Hochul on November 16th, 2023. The act went into effect on November 16th, 2024 and affects 2.3 million New Yorkers allowing them to finally have the opportunity to thrive. The Clean Slate Act automatically seals eligible misdemeanor convictions after three years and felony convictions after eight years giving individuals a second chance, reducing recidivism and allowing them to be active members of their families and communities.
