Sarah Smith is Secretary of the Board of Directors of VOICE-Buffalo. She recently trained in restorative practices with Erie County Restorative Justice Coalition. She has spent the past decade researching and teaching sociology and learning about systems of injustice, inequity, exclusion, and abuses of power. She loves sociology because it helps in understanding the roots of such oppressive practices.
Sarah says, “As a first-generation college student from rural Western New York, I took the long way around to valuing school. Sometimes the scenic route lets us know ourselves better. I want to work toward social changes demanded by those most directly impacted by injustice, inequity, and exclusion.” Sarah appreciates working with VOICE-Buffalo because she shares the same core values.
